Filming Ride to Adventure in California

Fall found John making a fairly lengthy trip to the Anza Borrego Desert State Park in sunny southern California.  John was working with Winding Road Films HD on two new episodes of “Ride to Adventure” for the Outdoor Channel.

Both episodes feature the Zero MX, a fully electric motorcycle that proved perfect in the desert environment.  No heat, no noise, plenty of torque, and lightweight.  Anyone who’s spent any time in sand on two wheels knows that’s pretty sweet.

We spent a total of 4 days in the Anza Borrego desert, and filmed in locations ranging from wind-caves to technical rock crawling, and even a real, natural desert oasis.  Water in the desert is weird enough, but water plus an electric motorcycle?  That got our attention.  I’ll admit that Shane and Jocelin, my co-stars and I were a little apprehensive about taking Zeroes through a deep water crossing, but 3 crossings later, nobody was electrocuted and the bikes were running great.  We got them in up to their headlights, something you couldn’t do on a gas bike.  It was a very strange sensation once the motor dropped underwater – complete silence, not even any chain whir.  Very cool.

The episodes are airing on the Outdoor Channel.  Make sure you drop them a line and let them know how much you love the show (and the awesome host).
